A grand ‘Night of Networking’ slated for job seekers at St. Thomas’ Job Ministry meeting April 24

Currently employed Job Ministry volunteers will be available to talk with job seekers during the spring “Night of Networking” at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in the gymnasium of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Parish, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

Those recently displaced from jobs or new to a job hunt will want to arrive at 6 p.m. for a “Networking #101” session to garner tips about starting a job hunt. Other advice includes learning the advantages of using handbills, resumes, business cards, web sites and other resources. Both sessions are free.

At 7 p.m., everyone seeking employment can meet with Job Ministry volunteers, individuals currently employed who are willing to offer a variety of help. These volunteers will share information about
• their companies and positions;
• how they “landed” their positions;
• their company web sites;
• how to approach their companies when inquiring about positions;
• open positions, if available, with their companies;
• opportunities in their areas of expertise and what future prospects could hold; and
• other helpful topics and tips.

Functional networking will follow in which discussion will zero in on specific areas including
• human resources,
• finance/accounting,
• supply chain/operations,
• project management,
• sales/marketing, and
• information systems.

Job seekers also are reminded to bring 30 copies of their resumes, handbills and/or business cards to share.
