DATE: Feb. 5, 2009
An opportunity for seasonal photos is coming up with the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 25. Photographers will be welcome to take pictures at any of the services held throughout that day at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.
The schedule of services during which ashes will be distributed is: • 6:30 and 8:30 a.m., Mass • Noon, a brief prayer service – ashes will be distributed until 1 p.m. • 4:30 p.m., a family prayer service • 7:30 p.m., Mass.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, the 40-day period preceding Easter during which Christians around the world prepare for the joyous celebration of Christ’s resurrection. Palms from last year’s Palm Sunday are burned to yield the ashes that are blessed and applied to the foreheads of recipients in the form of a cross on Ash Wednesday. This year, Easter Sunday will be celebrated April 12.
