A ‘Night of Networking’ slated for job seekers at St. Thomas ’ Job Ministry meeting Oct. 22
Networking scores at the top these days as the most useful method to find a job. So job seekers are invited to a “Night of Networking” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road , Naperville .
Those recently displaced from jobs or new to a job hunt will want to arrive at 6 p.m. for a “Networking #101” session to garner tips about starting a job hunt. Other advice includes learning the advantages of using handbills, resumes, business cards, web sites and other resources. Both sessions are free.
The “Night of Networking” will feature currently employed Job Ministry volunteers willing to offer a variety of help. They will share information about • their companies and positions; • how they “landed” their positions; • their company web sites; • how to approach their companies when inquiring about positions; • open positions, if available, within their companies; • opportunities in their areas of expertise and what future prospects could hold; and • other helpful topics and tips.
Two rounds of structured networking will start with assigned tables for cross-functional networking, followed by functional networking. Functional areas include human resources, finance/accounting, supply chain/operations, project management, sales/marketing, and information systems.
Job seekers also are reminded to bring 30 copies of their resumes, handbills and/or business cards to share.
