An excellent holiday photo opportunity presents itself at a special Thanksgiving Day Mass when the bread and wine parishioners will use at their dinner tables will be blessed. Before Mass, parishioners leave their bread and wine on decorated tables set up in the main aisle of the church; they reclaim their items at the conclusion of the service.
Another highlight of the Mass is the ad lib prayers of thanksgiving offered by parishioners. The Rev. Joel Fortier, principal presider at the Mass and pastor of St. Thomas the Apostle, walks through the church, handing a microphone to anyone, youngster as well as retired person, willing to thank God aloud for the past year’s blessings.
St. Thomas the Apostle, a parish of the Diocese of Joliet, strives to bear the Good News of God’s unconditional love to all generations through worship, faith formation, witness and service.
